“Who is going to hire me at my age?”
This is a common, and often unnerving question asked by mature job seekers.
Truth be told, many employers will actually select mature workers over the youth of today, preferring the reliability and strong work ethics that have been ingrained through years of hard work and dedication.
There are also a number of resources and websites that allow older workers the opportunity to apply for roles to which they are well suited.
OlderWorkers.com.au
Older Workers is a national online job board connecting age-friendly employers with older Australians looking for work. Job Seekers can register and set up an online account, and Employers can advertise roles cheaply in comparison to the larger job seeking websites, with fees starting at just $110 for 30 days.
The website is very user-friendly and simple to follow, and a lot of the advertisements allow workers to get in touch with employers directly. This is a bonus as many Job Ads on larger websites only allow workers to ‘Apply Online’, and do not have the chance to connect with an employer in the application process.
Seek.com.au
Simply entering ‘Mature Aged’ into the Keywords search can narrow down the Job Ads to those that have mentioned this in the ad content.
With the sheer size of Seek this can be a bit hit or miss. We entered Mature Age and Brisbane as the keyword and region parameters, and the search revealed 22 jobs targeted specifically for mature workers.
This is something you can do with all of the larger websites such as Indeed, Adzuna, and Jora- type ‘Mature Aged’ into the Keyword search and see what they have on offer.
Carecareers
While this website is geared towards the aged care sector, there is a solid base of information to access about the sector and how it is well suited to mature workers. The site also provides information, advice and resources to access free or subsidised qualifications in the aged and community services sector.
Care Careers also offers for mature workers to contact their career centre directly for advice on gaining employment in this field.
